SKILLSHARING FOR STREET CHILDREN & DROPOUTS

February 6 @ 9:00 am - July 6 @ 3:00 pm

Free

Childhood, they say, is synonymous with innocence; It is a time when we are spared the rigours of adult life; it is a time of freedom, of joy, of play. But in Ghana, many children are out of school and on the streets to sell or beg to feed themselves and their families.

A survey conducted by a group of researchers revealed that most street children go on the street first and foremost to work for money in order to buy their personal effects such as clothing, cooking pots, bowls and buckets (Apt and Greico 1995).

Sometimes, street children are perceived to be a disgrace to the image of the country so they are chased out of the street by the police. Oftentimes, they are perceived to be criminals as a result of their appearances. But these children sometimes look unkempt because of the nature of work they do.

According to an estimate by the Consortium of Street Children in Africa, there are currently about 30,000 street children in Accra, Ghana.

This number is alarming. We see them everyday on our streets doing everything they can to survive. But it’s time to help them acquire skills that can help transform their lives. We may not be able to take all of them from the streets at a time but we can do our best to take as many as possible from the streets every year through Information Technology and Vocational training.

This is why we are excited to announce the TGLC Collaborative Programme to invite partners to help us train street children and school dropouts in coding, graphic designing and photo/videography through our Skill-sharing programme.

Since last year, our Skill-Sharing Programme has helped many young people acquire skills in coding/programming, graphic designing and photography/videography for free. Many of these beneficiaries are now part of our leadership programme being trained, mentored and supported to build their business and vision with the skills they acquired.

This year, we are extending this opportunity to street children and school dropouts. We are inviting NGOs who are already into helping street children and school dropouts, and corporate bodies and individuals who can support with laptops and funds for feeding them to join in this life-changing collaboration.

Individuals, corporate bodies and religious institutions interesting in this collaborative programme should please visit www.thegracedlifepartners.org/collabwithus or send us an email at thegracedlifeleaders@gmail.com or call +233 30 291 4048 / +233 20 589 2863
