In classrooms across Ghana, a new generation of young women is beginning to explore the technologies that will define the future. At Accra Girls’ Senior High School, dozens of students are not only learning about Artificial Intelligence (AI) but are actively engaging with it, developing skills that position them to become innovators, creators, and leaders in an increasingly digital world.

Since June 2025, The GracedLife Leadership Centre (TGLC), through its Tech Tide Girls program, has partnered with Divas in AI through its Her Digital Initiative to implement an AI education program at Accra Girls’ Senior High School. What began as a shared commitment to promoting technology education among girls has grown into a thriving learning community that is now officially established as the school’s AI Club.

Today, the club consists of two successful cohorts with approximately 75 student members, all united by a desire to explore the possibilities of technology and artificial intelligence.

Creating Opportunities Through Technology Education

Around the world, artificial intelligence is transforming how people learn, work, communicate, and solve problems. Yet, women and girls remain significantly underrepresented in many technology-related fields. Bridging this gap requires intentional efforts to expose young women to emerging technologies early and equip them with the skills and confidence needed to participate fully in the digital economy.

The AI Club was established to do exactly that.

The initiative seeks to provide students with meaningful exposure to artificial intelligence, helping them understand not only what AI is but also how it can be used responsibly and creatively to address real-world challenges. Through the program, students are introduced to concepts that many people only encounter at the tertiary level, giving them an early advantage and expanding their vision of what is possible.

More importantly, the program is helping students see themselves as future contributors to the technology ecosystem rather than mere consumers of technology.

Learning by Doing

A key strength of the program is its commitment to hands-on learning.

Rather than relying solely on classroom lectures, the curriculum combines theoretical instruction with practical activities that allow students to apply what they learn. Through interactive sessions, demonstrations, group exercises, projects, and discussions, students gain a deeper understanding of AI concepts and their real-world applications.

This experiential approach has created an engaging learning environment where curiosity is encouraged, creativity is nurtured, and innovation is celebrated.

Beyond technical skills, the AI Club has become a platform for personal growth and empowerment.

Students who may have initially viewed technology as intimidating are now actively participating in discussions about artificial intelligence and digital innovation.

The enthusiasm shown by members has demonstrated that when girls are given access to opportunities, mentorship, and the right learning environment, they are eager to engage with technology and excel in it.

The club has also fostered a strong sense of community among participants, creating a network of young learners who inspire and support one another as they explore new possibilities.

Through Tech Tide Girls, The GracedLife Leadership Centre continues its mission of empowering young people through education, leadership development, and digital inclusion.

Divas in AI, through the Her Digital Initiative, brings its global commitment to increasing diversity and participation in artificial intelligence, particularly among girls and women.

Together, the two organizations have created a program that combines expertise, passion, and purpose to provide students with access to high-quality AI education and mentorship.

Their partnership demonstrates what is possible when organizations come together around a common vision: creating opportunities that equip young people with the skills they need to thrive in the future.

The journey of the AI Club is only beginning.

With two successful cohorts already completed and approximately 75 students reached, the program has laid a strong foundation for continued growth and impact.
